27/11/2008 - Fire Service Awards 2008 - Winners Announced!
Durham District Partnership was nominated for two Fire Service Awards: Community Spirit Award and Partner of the Year. The Awards Ceremony took place on Friday 21 November 2008 at the Radisson SAS Hotel in Durham. DDP missed out on the Community Spirit Award, however won the prestigious Partner of the Year Award!
This Award recognised the Partnership's effort in respect of community support and partnership working. The DDP nominated a fire service officer, David Turnbull, to become Chair of the whole partnership, which is indicative of how the partnership has embraced the work of the Fire and Rescue Service.
Brian Riley, LSP Development Officer, said: "On behalf of the partnership I am absolutely delighted that we have won this prestigious award, especially given that this is the final year of the Durham District Partnership." The Durham and Chester-le-Street Lifestyle Initiative, supported by the Primary Care Trust, and aided by the Footsteps to Fitness walk volunteers have created a series of health walks designed to increase the level of physical activity in the local community.

The aim of Active Durham is to bring together the public, private, voluntary and community sectors, to provide a co-ordinated approach to the delivery of sport and active leisure, to increase participation levels and to contribute towards broader social policy and community outcomes at a local level.
