The Durham District Partnership (DDP) members were delighted to join Durham City Centre Licensees at their very first Awards Evening to celebrate the success of Durham City Best Bar None Awards, which was held at The Ramside Hall Hotel on 14 October 2008.
This scheme was launched in March and since submitting applications, all licensed premises have gone through a rigorous assessment process with the Scheme Assessors: Carol Feenan (City of Durham Council) and Inspector Ian Proud (Durham Constabulary).
Carol Feenan, Scheme Manager said: "The scheme has been keenly received by the licensed trade of Durham City Centre, with 75% of licensees joining in. The scheme is all about public safety, protecting children from harm, the reduction of crime and disorder and the prevention of public nuisance that can occur when late-night visitors head home."
"The Awards Evening was a huge success with Durham Students Union taking the big prize of 'Overall Best Premises Bar None'. We gained valuable sponsorship from the DDP, Prince Bishops Shopping Centre, Durham Markets Company, Chester-le-Street and Durham City Enterprise Agency, Blachere Illumination UK and The Gates Shopping Centre. The majority of licensees were at the event and a great night was had by all."
