The County Durham Sport Awards Scheme seeks to promote sport and physical activity across County Durham and recognise the achievements of the Partnership's coaches, clubs, volunteers and schools throughout the past 12 months.

You are invited to make nominations in the various awards categories, which are highlighted below. This year, all District Winners will be selected through the Community Sport Networks, with these winners being put forward for the overall County Durham Sport Awards.

You are urged to take this opportunity to make nominations and promote the excellent work taking place.

Completed nomination form(s) must be returned no later than Friday 29th August 2008.

Award Criteria 2008

Please note that ALL nominations for ALL of the categories should be based on the school academic year 2007/2008 (i.e. 1 September 2007 - 31 August 2008)

Award CategoryNominations in this category must meet the following criteria:
Male Community Coach of the Year
  • Have an NGB Level One Coaching Qualification as a minimum
  • Have an enhanced CRB disclosure

NB This category DOES NOT exclusively apply to coaches employed under the Community Sports Coaches Scheme

Female Community Coach of the Year
  • Have an NGB Level One Coaching Qualification as a minimum
  • Have an enhanced CRB disclosure

NB This category DOES NOT exclusively apply to coaches employed under the Community Sports Coaches Scheme

Male Volunteer Coach of the Year
  • Have an NGB Level One Coaching Qualification as a minimum
  • Have an enhanced CRB disclosure
  • Receive nothing more than expenses for the work they do
Female Volunteer Coach of the Year
  • Have an NGB Level One Coaching Qualification as a minimum
  • Have an enhanced CRB disclosure
  • Receive nothing more than expenses for the work they do
Male Volunteer of the Year
  • Be actively volunteering within County Durham in a sports-related role other than coaching
Female Volunteer of the Year
  • Be actively volunteering within County Durham in a sports-related role other than coaching
Young Volunteer of the Year
  • Be actively volunteering within County Durham in a sports-related role other than coaching
  • Be 18 or under as of 31/08/08
Sports Club of the Year
  • Have both a Senior and Junior section
  • Be NGB Accredited or actively working towards accreditation
Junior Sports Club of the Year
  • Have an Under 18 section
  • Be NGB Accredited or actively working towards accreditation
Primary School Contribution to PE & School Sport
  • There is no minimum criteria for the schools awards
Secondary School Contribution to PE & School Sport
  • There is no minimum criteria for the schools awards

The Durham and Chester-le-Street Lifestyle Initiative, supported by the Primary Care Trust, and aided by the Footsteps to Fitness walk volunteers have created a series of health walks designed to increase the level of physical activity in the local community.
